Philip: I’m a great fan of Naomi. She treats the world like it’s a small place – Tokyo one morning, Rio in the afternoon – and I love that about her.
On this day, she had just flown in from who-knows-where, and she was getting ready to go to the races. It was her first visit to Ascot, and she was excited about it.
When she was available, Naomi would always model for me in my shows, and never for a fee. She hadn’t demanded that I come to Ascot, but I felt it was the least I could do. When I arrived I saw that her dress needed ironing, so I simply offered to help. She had called with maybe a week’s warning. I must have known her outfit was going to be all white so I just winged it and created her a hat that I knew woul make her look amazing. To make a stunningly beautiful woman like Naomi look even more so is a thrilling experience.
She was surprised to travel by helicopter to Ascot, but by the time she was ready to go, we were running so late that a no-fly zone had been set up around the venue. An open-top Bentley was quickly found as a replacement. I will always remember the young waitress at the hotel coming out to see her. She’s so beautiful in the flesh that you can’t just look – you stare.
